Early Life

Young Dolph was only two years old when his family moved to Memphis from Chicago. He had two sisters and all of the children were brought up by his grandmother. This was mainly because both his parents suffered from addiction to cocaine. As a child, he could only see his parents once every few weeks.

Even though he did not like to be in such a strict household with his grandmother, he mentioned in one of his interviews that he started to understand and utilize her teachings when he was fifteen years old. Her passing away in 2008 left a huge impact on him.

The same year as his grandmother passed, he started writing songs. That year, in 2008, he released his first mix-tape. It was titled Paper Route Campaign. After gaining local popularity, he decided to invest his time into making music.

In 2010, he established his label and named it the Paper Route Empire. He used to release his mixtapes under his label. It was an independent record label.

Personal Life

When it comes to his personal life, Young Dolph led a pretty normal life. He was in a relationship with his partner Mia Jaye. he had two children with her. And a patent, he was a strict one. And this was mainly because of how he was brought up by his grandmother.

Death

In the year 2021, on 17 November, Young Dolph was visiting the store Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies, which he used to do every time he was coming back home. It was then that he was shot by two gunmen who were driving in a white colored Mercedes-Benz.

Even though he was rushed to the hospital, it was too late. The autopsy reports showed that there were as many as twenty-two gunshot wounds on his body.

It is said that a crowd of nearly a hundred people gathered at the scene. It was difficult for the people to manage them and a curfew had to be called by the councilman of the town.

Young Dolph was laid to rest on 30 November 2021. According to sources, a “service was held at First Baptist Church Broad Street.”

Remembering Young Dolph, the city of Memphis decided to rename a street, not far from where he was killed, to Adolph “Young Dolph” Thornton Jr. Avenue. Two lawmakers from Tennessee proposed that 17 November should be declared ‘Adolph Thornton Day of Service.’ This day would also serve the purpose to “celebrate the memory, music, and community service contributions of Adolph “Young Dolph” Thornton and to encourage Tennesseans to help others,” according to source.
