Intel Chief Optimistic About Its AI-Enabled Chip Manufacturing
On Thursday, Intel informed that many personal computer makers are using its new AI-enabled chip. The company is optimistic about its newest chip and wants its customers to upgrade their PC machines in the new era of chatbots.
According to Reuters.com,
“At a press event in New York, Intel said the new offering will be available in laptops from Dell Technologies (DELL.N), Microsoft (MSFT.O), Lenovo Group (0992.HK) and others that will go on sale on Thursday at Best Buy (BBY.N) in the U.S. and other global retailers including China’s JD.com (9618.HK) and Australia’s Harvey Norman (HVN.AX).”
After Intel came up with the news, its shares rose by 3.6%. For decades, Intel’s processors (CPUs) have been a staple for most personal computers across the world. Furthermore, these processors are also some of the best in the market.
As of now, Intel manufactured its new chip named “Meteor Lake.” It is the first chip that will contain an NPU (neural processing unit). Here, within the chip, there is a section solely dedicated to dealing with operations related to artificial intelligence.
After the slump in PC sales after the pandemic, Intel faced a lot of problems. This is because buyers who wanted to work from home felt no reason to purchase new equipment. Hence, Intel is making a new pitch to its consumers to purchase new computer equipment.
Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of Intel, also stated that the company believes that its chips will make the manufacturing of AI chips cheaper. Furthermore, AI chips will also become faster and more private as compared to the services from cloud data centers.
Apart from that, Intel is also planning to come with Gaudi 3, which will challenge Nvidia’s chips in the data center AI market.
